‘Will & Harper’ follows Will Ferrell and Harper Steele on a cross-country road trip after Steele came out as a trans woman.

Harper and Will met back in the 1990s, and have shared nearly thirty years of friendship together. This documentary highlights their friendship on a road trip from New York to Los Angeles, to discuss Harper's transition and the next chapter in their relationship together. Harper came out as a trans woman in a long, vulnerable email to Will that outlined her decision to transition at 61.

“I don’t want to exploit our friendship, but this could, I think, be just a wonderful way for us to explore this topic.”

Together, and after some time had passed, they conceptualized the idea as a documentary, giving them the time and space to tell their story and ask questions. Will had said, “Of course, I made it clear to Harper, ‘I don’t want to exploit our friendship, but this could, I think, be just a wonderful way for us to explore this topic. Obviously, for me to learn, ask all the questions that I have about what you’re going through and who you are, have you changed?'”
